City of Stoughton officials will declare a snow emergency when three or more inches of snow are forecast, or three inches have fallen or as conditions warrant, according to city ordinance.

During such an emergency, vehicles can only be parked on the even side of the street on even-numbered days; odd side of the street on odd-numbered days. No vehicle can be parked on any street between midnight and 8 a.m. during a snow emergency.

Parking restrictions remain in place until the emergency is canceled or until three consecutive midnight to 8 a.m. periods have elapsed. Violating this ordinance will be a $25 fine, and any vehicles that remain unmoved 24 hours after a citation has been issued will be towed, at the owner’s expense.
